Checks for employers
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks are vital to safeguarding for organisations where staff have access to children or vulnerable adults, or work in other particular roles.
Thurrock Council is a registered umbrella body and accredited e-broker with the DBS, which means we are able to process checks on behalf of other organisations.
Benefits of working with us
We have more than 10 years' experience of processing employment checks.
You can use our online DBS e-bulk system to carry out your DBS checks. Benefits include:
- a quick online process – no paper forms to complete
- postal and courier services are not needed
- information is automatically validated through the online form, so there are fewer errors
- administration time and costs are reduced
- disclosure certificates are kept secure
- results are delivered quickly from the DBS, and only to persons nominated
- the system is fully managed and maintained by us
We do the work
Our e-bulk facility can send completed forms electronically direct to the DBS on your behalf. This means your organisation need not apply to operate as a registered body, and can save on staff, training and systems costs.
There are 10 simple steps to our DBS process:
- you give us the email details of the applicant, employee or volunteer – the "subject" – to be checked, along with those of the manager who will be validating IDs
- we email a username and password to the subject, along with a link to this website and instructions on how to complete the form
- we also send a username and password to a manager who will verify the subject's ID
- the subject goes to thurrock.employmentcheck.org.uk and logs in to complete the simple secure form – the form cannot be submitted if it’s incomplete or contains errors
- we send an email to the subject, confirming their form was submitted successfully
- we send an email to the ID verifier to tell them the ID section now needs to be completed
- the verifier checks the ID supplied by subject, enters details, and submits the form
- thurrock.employmentcheck.org.uk sends the form via e-bulk to the DBS for processing
- the DBS sends confirmation of their check, including whether a trace was found
- the manager is sent confirmation of the outcome
